Globalization and its Discontents, J. Stiglitz
Here, Stiglitz, formerly Director of the World Bank, presents an overview of the role of the IFIs (the International Financial Institutions (WTO, World Bank and International Monetary Fund)) in the economic events of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. As a former head of the World Bank, Stiglitz provides a nuanced view of the difference between his institution and the IMF. He paints the WB in a fairly positive light compared to the IMF which, with the mission of providing financial and economic stability, he often sees as responsible for causing disruption and crisis (such as during the Asian economic crisis of the late 90s). For anyone who wants a recent history of global economics this is a good book, but I’d recommend taking it with a pinch of salt.
